The electrical grid’s shift to a distributed, AI-enabled architecture—with intelligence at the edge—is accelerating efficiency but exposing critical infrastructure to sophisticated cyber-espionage campaigns like Volt and Salt Typhoon. This paper explains why a secure foundation is non-negotiable. It details how Secure AI-Enabled Private Mobile Networks (PMNs) and a unified Zero Trust strategy deliver the necessary control, resilience, and secure data flows to protect utility operations and maintain grid reliability.

• The Foundational Role of Private Mobile Networks (PMNs): Understand why PMNs are critical AI enablers for utilities, offering enhanced security capabilities that are foundational for maintaining grid reliability and resiliency.

• Defense Against State-Sponsored Threats: Gain insight into how sophisticated campaigns like Volt Typhoon target critical infrastructure and learn how the isolation and rigorous controls of PMNs, when combined with a Zero Trust model, significantly constrain an adversary’s ability to persist or cause disruption.

• The Multilayered Security Architecture: Explore the four essential layers of an AI-ready PMN security framework—Core Security, Edge Security, AI Ecosystem Security, and Governance—and how this defense-in-depth strategy protects against threats across the entire system.
